Featured Dog

Cody

Name: Martin
Age: Adult
Size: Medium
Sex: Male

Notes: Martin is just what we call him -- he's a "good bear." He came to us through a shelter with little information, but we do know that he did not have adequate attention and care at his previous home. He has been successfully treated for mange and had mats shaved from his fur, and he is feeling so much better now. He'll need some time for his fur to grow back along his rump and back legs, but where he has coat it is thick and lovely!

Martin is mixed with something that has tempered the border collie energy, but he is still a clever and focused dog who is eager to please his humans. He has a sturdy body and weighs 45lbs but looks smaller. Martin is an absolute sweetheart. Through all of the treatment and wearing one of those awful e-collars, he's always been sweet and tolerant. Martin loves people and dogs equally. He loves to snuggle with his humans but also wants to have a dog (or two) he can wrestle and play with. He fit nicely into our pack without any conflicts.

He is not a high-drive dog, but does need regular exercise. Martin adores walks and will wait by the door for a chance to go out on leash. He is a pleasant walking companion - very little leg lifting or sniffing, and no barking at strange people or dogs. When you've been gone for a very long time -- like ten minutes -- Martin will bounce to an impressive height to greet you. We've taught him to not put paws on people, so the bouncing happens a few feet in front of you. It's adorable and pretty amusing. After sufficient exercise, Martin loves a good nap on a piece of soft furniture. Martin loves to have toys to chew on, and has not chewed anything that isn't a toy -- although he will steal shoes and slippers left unattended :) He may develop an interest in balls or frisbees for exercise purposes, but doesn't have a high ball drive. He will take the agility jumps in our yard, and would enjoy taking an agility class for fun, bonding, and exercise.

Martin adores children and would love to have a few of his own. We will not place him into a home with very small children, however, as he's a sturdy boy who likes to use his paws, and with his bounciness could accidentally hurt a small child.

Martin has a loud reaction to cats when seen from the window but was only moderately interested in some dog-experienced cats he met recently. We would need further testing before placing him into a home with cats.

Please go to our main website at www.mabcr.org for more information regarding the adoption of this or any dog from our rescue. Please note that while this dog is currently available, any dog may have an adoption pending and may not be available to you at this time. The same dog may later become available if the adoption falls through. Our website will give you details on our adoption procedures as well as an application for adoption. An application must be submitted prior to 'matching' an adopter with a dog as all dogs do not fit into all homes.

Our rescue does not have a public facility, therefore there are no visiting hours. Appointments to visit with the available dogs are made after the application process has been completed by our staff.

All dogs who are adopted through MABCR recieve one month of free pet insurance, supplied by Petfinder.org. Please remember to ask about it when adopting your new friend. To assist any dog within the MABCR organization, please consider making a donation to the general fund or to the medical fund.

This pet is: up to date with routine shots, altered.
